What is a Pigment Ink Print?![]() Today , artists commonly use the term to describe a fine art print produced by the inkjet printing method. A giclee print is made with a highly sophisticated inkjet printer using long lasting archival pigment inksets and stable media. Our inks have been tested and should produce a print with a longevity of 100+ years, under ideal conditions. Unlike MANY other studios printing today, we stick to ink from the manufacturer in order to insure stability and long life. Our goal is to provide you with the best quality product that we can.
![]() ![]() ![]() We do the bulk of our giclee printing on two machines, a 44" HP Z3100, and a 60" CanonIPF9100. Both machines run 12 color inksets, which can reproduce the widest color gamut of any machines on the market today.
We also coat our canvas with a protective varnish to add depth and durability to the finished product. We can also stretch your canvas to a wood frame if desired. We use Breathing Color Chromata White Canvas because of it's high quality and consistency. Here's the certificate that backs up the longevity of this material. Our primary papers are Moab Entrada and Crane Museo Max, which both have a smooth watercolor paper like surface, but hold incredible detail and a great dynamic range. We also use Museo Lasal as a satin finish photographic-style paper. Image CaptureIn order to make a print, we need to get your image into a computer. There are several ways to do this, including direct scanning, digital image capture, and scanning from a transparency. Whichever method you choose, the quality of the end product is determined at this step.
ColorIn addition to good color management practices, our technicians also use a great amount of skill and judgement to get great color. It’s important to keep in mind that a giclee is a reproduction, and will not match an original 100%. This said, we think you’ll be very happy with the results. We have many happy artists who have learned to keep giclee expenses reasonable by exercising restraint when judging and adjusting color.
ProofsWe are happy to provide a proof of your work before making the actual prints. Proofs include an 8x10 of the entire image, as well as a small strip at full magnification. Subsequent proofs are $25 per proof, plus postage. Overall color adjustments may be made at a cost of a new proof. Specific color adjusments are made at a price of $75 /hr, plus the cost of a new proof.
